I must say that I was pleasantly surprised to see a story about herpes in the main stream media. It seems as if Marcus Vick (brother to the infamous Michael Vick) is a tad bit upset because he believes and tweeted that his 'babymama' (Delicia Cordon) was infected with herpes from LeSean McCoy. LeSean is a Buffalo Bills running back. What makes the story even more interesting, is that Marcus and Delicia are not together. And yet, he is oh so concerned about her well being. Not quite... He uses this virus to publicly denigrate her and LeSean, saying that she caught the virus "chasing money" and that LeSean was tainted.
Perhaps this is Marcus' attempt to smear his ex because of jealousy. That is so irresponsible. Especially when you consider the fact that herpes can be dormant in the body for quite some time and be triggered by stress or illness. It is even possible that HE gave it to her unbeknownst to himself. Most of the carriers of herpes virus have NO IDEA they have the disease until they have an outbreak, This is the biggest issue with the virus, it can be spread by someone who has never had any symptoms.
If it is true that Delicia has herpes, Marcus needs to go to the doctor and get a herpes panel test. He needs to know his status in order to protect potential partners from being infected by virus. While wearing a condom helps prevent spread of herpes, it is still best to know your status. Condoms aren't 100%. Partners need to know the risks of sexual relations with a herpes positive person and decide if they are willing to take that chance.
Marcus should try to understand that demonizing the mother of his child and LeSean just perpetuates the stigma surrounding herpes and makes it once again that big bad boogeyman that everyone is terrified of. Trying to ruin her reputation and destroy her chance at love, is not cool at all. Maybe he thought by shaming her and LeSean no one else would want to be in their company. I don't know what his reasoning was for putting their business out there like that; and it is quite possible that he was lying and chose herpes because he is well aware of the terror it strikes in people's minds. But here's what I do know: He had a golden opportunity to enlighten people about the virus and he blew it! By showing compassion and understanding, he could have helped so many people cope. People, who have herpes and are too embarrassed and ashamed to talk to anyone about it. He had a chance to be a hero and create a conversation about herpes that is so necessary. Instead, he chose to remain ordinary and insignificant.
